The New England Highway Southern Entry to Crows Nest section involved a major realignment of the highway between sections 77125 & 79530. Up to 130,000m3 of excavation and fill was required to reshape the existing alignment.
Before the roadway could be laid the area was cleared, grubbed and the top soil was then stripped. Ground surface preparation was then carried out and bulk excavation/ fill was utilised to achieve the design contours. Finally preparation of the sub-grade for pavement layers and placing the sub-base and base pavement layers was completed.
The site was narrow with a 12m width in some areas. This made managing plant and equipment quite difficult, but with careful pre-planning was manageable. Part of the project scope was to tie in sections at opposite ends of the realignment section. FKG were required to work under tight time restraints to assist Roadtek.
FKG carefully planned and co-ordinated activities on the narrow site which also assisted in managing a tight budget and the approved traffic management plan for the 2,000 vehicles a day.
The project was delivered on time and to a high standard of finish to Roadtek. This was achieved by our highly experienced Foreman co-ordinating a large fleet of specialised plant and skilled staff.
