ACGS Sports & Aquatic Centre

The Anglican Church Grammar School or 'Churchie' as it is more popularly referred to, engaged FKG to construct the sports hall and aquatic centre to add to their already impressive facilities.  The project comprised of two separate contracts covering the building works and associated site works.  These site works involved road works and associated car parking and also upgrading and returfing the small oval and cricket pitch.

The sports hall has an expansive floor space of 2800m2 on the ground level and 1000m2 on the upper level.  The internal features include a gymnasium and a separate sports hall accommodating a range of sports from basketball, volleyball and tennis to indoor hockey and fusball with associated electronic scoreboards comparable to any commercial sporting hall.  The upper level contains a spectator area, classrooms, administration area and meeting facilities.

A unique aspect of the building was the feature wall containing bricks with engraved names of donors that contributed towards the construction of the building.  These bricks were incorporated into an external wall constructed in accordance with a template provided by the school.

The aquatic centre comprised of three heated pools, an upgrade of the existing 50 metre pool and the provision of a new 25 metre pool and "learn to swim pool".  The facilities included an entry office, plant room, changing rooms, spectator facilities and impressive paved areas and landscaping.  The 25 metre pool can accommodate water polo matches and all larger pools and associated equipment are of a level suitable for recognised competitive meetings.

The existing 25 metre pool adjacent to the sports hall was converted to an underground rainwater storage tank, collected from the sports hall using a symphonic drainage system.  This environmentally friendly measure will ensure precious water is not wasted.

'Churchie' has a well earned reputation for sporting achievements and have produced many sportsmen who have represented Australia.  FKG are proud to play an integral part in the future of the sporting success of the school.
