The FKG Group has won the award for ‘Refurbishment/Renovation over $2 Million’ at the 2016 Queensland Master Builders State Awards for the outstanding work completed on the Tjapukai Cultural Centre Revitalisation project in Far North Queensland.
In 2014, renovation works were undertaken on the Tjapukai Cultural Centre, an iconic Australian cultural facility dedicated to promoting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture. The project included major renovation works to the existing centre, progressive staged demolition and reconstruction. The finished complex includes architectural features and state of the art technology which was integrated into the design of the building.
Barry Smith, Operations Manager – Construction, FKG Group acknowledged the extensive work that had been carried out by the FKG Group project team. “The team carried out a very extensive demolition and rework of the existing Tjapukai Cultural Centre premises in Caravonica, Queensland, whilst at the same time keeping the attraction functioning and open to the public.”
“The team’s persistence in overcoming ongoing detailing and staging issues, coupled with working very closely with the client, led to the project’s ultimate success, which has now delivered a revitalised tourist attraction for the region.”
Key achievements during the construction process included working in operational environments and managing the structural demolition of the building while still being partially occupied without causing damage to remaining parts. Innovation played an integral part in the project with the use of robotic and long reach demolition to minimise noise and dust whilst preventing injury.
The FKG Group is committed to going above and beyond delivering quality workmanship, building long-term client relationships and providing cost-effective project solutions. Our extensive award wins are testament to our commitment and track record.
