Minister welcomes progress at Foxwell State Secondary College

Queensland Education Minister, the Hon. Grace Grace has welcomed FKG Group’s progress constructing the new Foxwell State Secondary College in Coomera, attending the official sod turning event on the 24th April.
The school located off Foxwell Road is targeted for opening in 2020 amid rapid growth in the Gold Coast suburb.
Stage one of the $64 million project consists of the design and construction of one to three storey buildings, including the school’s administration, information services centre, general learning, covered lunch area and indoor sports facilities.
“The first year seven students will walk through the gates of this brand-new school on day one of the 2020 school year,” the Minister said in a statement.
Barry Smith, Operations Manager – Construction, FKG Group, said there were currently around 85 workers on the project, including local subcontractors such as electricians, plumbers and other structural trades.
He said the project team was applying a number of innovations to speed progress, including using tilt panels instead of block work.
“We’re using prefabricated retaining walls, precast concrete block retaining walls and sleeper walls, to speed the timetable,” Barry said.
The FKG Group has earned a reputation as a “school specialist,” with the Coomera school joining a number of other Queensland projects currently under construction, including a new state high school at Mango Hill and the Queensland Academy of Science, Mathematics & Technology school at Toowong.
With Queensland’s population and its school sector continuing to grow, the FKG Group likely will have many more opportunities to apply its education know-how.
