As part of their pilot program to develop reserves of Coal Seam Gas (CSG), Santos contracted the FKG Group for the construction of the 200 megalitre Ben Bow Pilot Dam to store water pumped from nearby CSG wells. Once the cut-to-fill works were completed, the team created a waterproof seal on the dam floor and walls. This involved installing a clay liner on top of the compacted fill to assist with creating an impermeable liner below the HDPE liner. The double barrier will assist in preventing any leakages. While on site the main challenge faced was the rain encountered during construction. This meant access roads were often closed (creating difficulty in delivering materials and machines) and the dam required large periods of time to dry out the clay liner before works could recommence. The project achieved a clean record of safety with no incidents occurring on site and met all client quality expectations.
