The FKG Group was engaged by the Department of Transport and Main Roads to complete six kilometres of pavement rehabilitation on the Flinders Highway, between Mingela and Sellheim near Charters Towers in North Queensland.
Following thorough environmental management planning, the team completed works to strengthen the existing rural highway including road excavation, earthworks, drainage works, in situ stabilisation, placement of lightly bound pavements, bituminous surfacing, asphalt resurfacing, line marking, and vegetation works.
The team also undertook intersection upgrades at School Street in Sellheim and Dotswood/Mingela Road, which included overlay, widening, in situ stabilisation, plant mixed bound pavement, seal and asphalt.
Working in a relatively high traffic area, the team implemented a traffic management plan to ensure the safety of road users, pedestrians, and land owners, and to minimise impact on local community activities. Additionally, 70% of the suppliers engaged on the project were located in regional Queensland.
