The FKG Group were engaged by the Department of Education (DoE) to design and construct a new 4-storey building, 3-storey building, pump house, and refurbish two existing GLA blocks at the Queensland Academy for Science, Maths & Technology (QASMT) campus in Toowong, Brisbane.

Due to the operational nature of the school, FKG worked closely with QASMT, the Department of Education, and Ridgemill (Project Superintendent) to ensure all works were appropriately hoarded and fenced. Deliveries were scheduled so as not to interfere with the operation of the school, and a high degree of communication and consultation was engendered across the project.

At tender stage, FKG Group spent considerable time planning and consulting with crane and hoist contractors to ensure that the works could be carried out safely given the sloped nature of the site, the constraints from existing buildings, and the significant footprint of the new buildings.

The project performed extremely well, earning recognition from various DoE representatives. FKG were commended for our handling of community interest, managing design changes, tight timelines, and challenging site conditions, delivering a successful project with excellent relationships maintained.

The project was delivered on time and budget, to an extremely high-quality standard.

Queensland Academy for Science Mathematics and Technology are using the FKG Group to build our specialist STEM Precinct as part of the Building Future Schools Fund of the Department of Education in Queensland. We have found the FKG team to be extremely professional, thorough and mindful of the demands of working on a Secondary School site. FKG, led by the Project Manager, have worked with the school and the architect from the outset of our build to help us deliver the project that we had envisaged. No request has been too much.

The attention to detail, the clear communication between FKG, and the entire Project team, are setting this building project apart from the expected experience. Our relationship with FKG is one of dealing with competent, professional and friendly staff who co-operate fully to make our building project a pleasant experience in amongst the busyness of school life. The entire team at FKG are always responsive to our needs and always thinking outside the square to ensure the project is going to finish on time and within budget. We would have no hesitation in recommending FKG to any school or organisation intending to carry out a commercial building project.
