The FKG Group handled the staged design coordination and construction of an 8,500m² terminal with two levels. The ground floor encompasses check-in, baggage, departure and arrival areas, and the first-floor hosts airline lounges, offices and a retail space. The terminal was built to accommodate a potential capacity of 2,000 people at a time, with the intent of servicing regular domestic passenger services, charter flights, fly-in and fly-out services as well as airfreight services. The Brisbane West Wellcamp Airport is a landmark development for Queensland, being the first greenfield public airport built in Australia in 47 years and the nation’s first privately funded public airport.
