BARENBRUG (HERITAGE SEEDS)

To support their long-term growth strategy and expand their presence in the Toowoomba region, Barenbrug engaged the FKG Group Developments team to deliver a purpose-built processing and distribution facility tailored to their unique operational requirements.

The development scope included assisting the client with the acquisition of a suitably zoned site in the established AATLIS Industrial Precinct at Wellcamp, liaising with consultants and regulatory authorities to obtain development approvals, leading the detailed design process, and preparing the project for construction. Construction was delivered by the FKG Group’s in-house delivery partners.

Working in close collaboration with Barenbrug over a 12-month period prior to construction, the design was modelled on the company’s Melbourne head office to ensure brand alignment and operational familiarity across sites. The new Toowoomba facility includes a 500m² office space to accommodate more than 20 staff, a 5,000m² tilt panel warehouse for high-volume seed storage and processing, and a dedicated laboratory and value-add area to support the company’s research and development programs. A 900m² undercover awning facilitates efficient freight handling, loading and unloading, while future allowances have been made for a glasshouse to further support ongoing innovation in seed cultivation.

Site selection was critical to the success of this project. Barenbrug required a location that provided sufficient block size for operations, ease of access to freight routes, and proximity to the Toowoomba city centre. The selected site offered all these benefits and more, enabling seamless daily operations while positioning the business for future expansion.

Throughout the development, FKG’s integrated project team maintained a single point of contact for the client, streamlining communication and ensuring a smooth approvals and construction process. Despite the complexity of the operational requirements, the facility was delivered on time and within budget.
