FKG was engaged to undertake refurbishment works within the operational QEII Jubilee Hospital. The scope included demolition and reinstatement works across Wards 4A and 5A, slab preparation, installation of new walls, ceilings, flooring, joinery, FF&E, and mechanical upgrades on Level 6.
Operating within a live hospital environment, the team adhered to strict infection control protocols and coordinated closely with hospital staff to minimise disruption. Shutdowns and service cutovers were programmed as nightworks, and all activities followed the hospital’s Notice of Impacting Activity process. Collaboration with stakeholders ensured that methodologies were aligned with hospital operations. During demolition, undocumented asbestos was identified and safely removed by licensed contractors.
Design documentation challenges were resolved through close engagement with the client’s architect to develop coordinated solutions. Works were staged to maintain clear separation between construction and patient areas, with safety and operational continuity prioritised throughout delivery.
