With a core focus on workplace health and safety, the FKG Group recently participated in Safe Work Australia’s ‘Safe Work Month’ campaign throughout October, focusing on the core message of ‘A moment is all it takes’.
The campaign provided staff with thorough weekly tips for handling high risk situations, with the key message “It only takes a moment to make a difference”, reiterated throughout the campaign.
Site based project teams introduced additional weekly safety topics to toolbox meetings with their team and discussed the impact that an incident could have on their career, family, and life. Key information and guidelines were shared about safety when managing silica dust, being aware of mental health issues, understanding legal compliance, and working around power.
The teams were also reminded about the importance of maintaining a ‘close eye’ on high risk activities on site.
“The campaign really reinforced that we need to remain vigilant when it comes to high risk activities – every day, every week, and all year round,” said Nick Gardner, FKG Group Managing Director.
The campaign wrapped up with site barbeques and morning teas to provide each team with the opportunity to reflect on the topics throughout the month, share their personal experiences, and discuss their learnings.
FKG Group Safety Manager Simon Snow, said he found the campaign reflected FKG Group’s core values. “During the campaign there were opportunistic reminders of our commitment to stop, think, plan, then go. It aligned with the FKG Group values, and what we have always encouraged.”
At the Brisbane and Toowoomba office morning teas, the team were prompted to take a moment to consider what’s important to them, and to always remember this when in potentially unsafe situations. The Brisbane office also heard from guest speaker Ben Horn, who swapped a career in carpentry to join his brother Jeff Horn in the boxing world.
