Manup! For Prostate Cancer Team Hit the Road

21st July 2015

On Friday 17th July, The ‘ManUp’ for Prostate Cancer Team hit the road from the FKG Group Head Office to commence their 2015 Educational Tour in an effort to raise awareness of prostate cancer, including detection, treatment and the need for a better support programs for men living with the disease.

To support ManUp! in their bid to raise Prostate Cancer Awareness, the FKG Group provided a secondary vehicle for the four month educational tour, which has joined the ManUp! VW Kombi and will travel over 8,500km from July through to October 2015. The tour will include visits to over 50 Queensland towns including Augathella, Emerald, Warwick, Chinchilla, Kingaroy, Clermont, Atherton, Proserpine, Tin Can Bay and Moranbah.

Founder of the ManUp! For Prostate Cancer Organisation, Brian Costello, explained that it is only through awareness and education that prostate cancer will be detected at an earlier, more treatable stage;

“Most men don’t even know that detection can now be done with a simple blood test, and that’s a message worth spreading as quickly and widely as possible. With one in five Queensland men to be diagnosed with Prostate cancer in their lifetime, our aim is to raise awareness of the disease.”

ManUp! Queensland is a community based organisation dedicated to providing support for men affected by prostate cancer. It was established in response to the need for dedicated prostate care nurses in hospitals throughout Queensland.

ManUp! Queensland recognises the importance of the early detection and treatment of prostate cancer. Through community awareness and education, ManUp! Queensland will challenge men to ‘man up’ and overcome the stigma that is associated with proactively looking after their own health as early detection not only saves lives but can also preserve the quality of life.
