Staff Celebrate 25 Years at the FKG Group

24th September 2015

Two FKG Group team members, Karen Nugent, Accounts Supervisor and Wayne McPhee, Procurement Officer, have recently celebrated 25 years of service with the company, with both employees being acknowledged at an awards ceremony held during an internal staff event recently.

Having started started working at the FKG Group as a receptionist and accounts payable clerk in 1990, it is Karen’s consistent tenacity, problem-solving skills and results-focus which has seen her run a successful accounts department for over a quarter of a century.

Karen has been key to promoting and all-inclusive culture at the FKG Group, with her coordination of the “Friday $5 lunch”. A tradition in the Toowoomba office whereby staff will all contribute towards a special lunch, which sometimes include wood-fired pizzas cooked in the office’s pizza oven.

Karen said, “It’s the family feel that makes it a great place to work. FKG looks after us with free healthy lunches daily, gym, sauna, pool, child care centre, free personal training sessions – the list goes on… There are not many companies who can offer so many benefits as well as promoting a family culture where everyone sits down together most days to have a meal. It’s these things that make it a great place to work.”

Site Supervisor, Paul Gardner, who has worked with Karen since 1990 said she is a loyal, trusted and steadfast employee. “I applaud Karen’s unparalleled work ethics, not only for her concern for ‘the brothers’ [the Gardner family] but also for her personal concern for all at the FKG Group,” said Paul.

Other long time employee Wayne McPhee (aka ‘Scribey’) as he is affectionately called by most, started out as a labourer at the same time as Karen. Wayne’s can-do attitude and jovial personality have seen him work his way up the company to his role as Procurement Officer. “I’ve met some great people along the way and seen so many parts of Queensland working for the FKG Group,” Wayne said.

Fleet Manager – FKG Group, Frank Gardner, who was the site foreman when Wayne first started working for the company in 1990, commented, “Scribey is hard working and loyal. He commits 100% to every task and his consistently cheerful approach has made him a real asset to the company. On behalf of the FKG Group I’d like to thank him for his loyalty to the company and the Gardner family and look forward to many more years ahead.”

25 years is a large milestone by anyone’s standards and the FKG Group would like to congratulate Karen and Scribey for their contribution to the success of the company.
