The FKG Group has today been awarded the $53.3 million contract to construct the new Cairns Performing Arts Centre, with works due to commence in March, 2016.
The completed facility, which will be the centrepiece of ‘The Precinct’ – a new performing arts and community hub, will replace the existing Civic Theatre in Cairns and include seating for 941 in the main theatre.

Group Manager – Construction, FKG Group, Geoff Dunnett commented that the development would be a landmark project for the Cairns community, in addition to the recently commenced Cairns Aquarium and Research Facility project, which the FKG Group is also constructing.
“The FKG Group is proud to have been awarded the Cairns Performing Arts Centre project, which will be a wonderful addition to the local community. Having recently completed the refurbishment of the Tjapukai Cultural Centre, and currently constructing the Cairns Aquarium and Research Facility, the FKG Group is looking forward to completing another milestone project for the region. ”
Having completed multiple projects in the local Cairns community over the last 15 years, the FKG Group is committed to local engagement, placing a high focus on content from local business and suppliers. To complete the Cairns Performing Arts Centre project, the FKG Group has assembled a specialised team, and will leverage off the Group’s previous experience in theatre and auditorium projects.
