FKG Group Hosts Inaugural Cubby House Competition To Raise Money For Prostate Cancer

16th June 2017

On Friday 16th June 2017, the FKG Group hosted the inaugural It’s a Bloke Thing Cubby House Competition, with the Group taking on McNab and Hutchinson Builders, in a friendly competition to see who could build the best cubby in Toowoomba.

FKG Group’s Executive Chairman, Gary Gardner was joined by McNab’s Managing Director and CEO Michael McNab and Hutchinson Builders’ Toowoomba Area Manager, Robert Weymouth to watch as their cubbies went head to head.

Linda Rosengreen, Queensland Master Builder’s Regional Manager, for the Downs and Western Region, was there to make the big decision, alongside the kids from the FKG Building Blocks Early Learning Centre, who participated in the Children’s Choice Award.

With two titles up for grabs, there were a few ground rules in place for the construction of the cubbies. The rules stated that all cubbies had to fit a standard tray back ute, they had to represent an element of sustainable building and construction practices, there had to be at least one window and one door and the total cost for materials could not exceed $500.

The three construction giants had from early April to design and build their cubbies in secret, ahead of the big reveal on the competition day.   Each team interpreted the rules very differently, resulting in three incredible cubby houses and one very tough decision for the judge, Linda Rosengreen.

McNabs walked away the winners, with both the Best Cubby and the Children’s Choice titles.

The cubbies will be auctioned off to the highest bidder at this year’s Qantas Link ‘It’s a Bloke Thing’ Prostate Cancer Luncheon, to be held on 15th August 2017, with all proceeds going to prostate cancer research.

The competition is one of many fundraising events that the FKG Group has held recently to support the It’s a Bloke Thing Foundation, which is this year chaired by FKG Group Executive Chairman, Gary Gardner.
