German Wins 2015 Fkg Tour of Toowoomba

German Michael Schweizer from team African Wildlife Safaris was the overall winner of the 2015 FKG Tour of Toowoomba following the finish of the tour’s thrilling stage five 50km criterium, held in Toowoomba recently.
Schweizer also won the Most Aggressive Rider and King of the Mountain jerseys laying the groundwork to win the tour overall and placing him in the lead of the Subaru National Road Series.
The 2015 FKG Tour of Toowoomba – the only Subaru National Road Series Event in Queensland – was one of the toughest so far, with a record 520km total length across four-days, and five-stages, increased up-hill sections and unsealed terrain.
FKG Group Executive Chairman, Gary Gardner said, “We have been excited to support the tour since its inception in 2010 and watch it grow ever since. Working with the Toowoomba community including Cycling Development Toowoomba and the Tour of Toowoomba – our aim was to provide strong, continuing support to establish the event as one of Australia’s highest profile races in the Subaru National Road Series event calendar.”
The size and reputation of the tour is becoming increasingly recognised with three international teams registering to compete in this year’s tour and the Queensland State Government pledging a $50,000 commitment for three years.
“An event of this size and reach provides great benefit to the Darling Downs community, with the increase in tourism flowing on to the local community and businesses. It’s pleasing to see the community get behind the event with the number of spectators, sponsors, and team registrations increasing every year,” said Mr Gardner.
Positioned next to the Stage five finishing line was the New Hope Group’s “A Day in the Park” family festival, which saw over 3,670 in attendance and featured Bananas in Pyjamas, a reptile shows, kids entertainment and food and wine stalls.
Preparations are now underway for the 2016 Tour of Toowoomba with more gruelling stages and a stellar turnout of international, interstate and local cyclists expected.
