Administration Building Refurbishment, Swartz Barracks Oakey
FKG was engaged to refurbish a high-use training and maintenance facility at Oakey Defence Base, upgrading internal spaces and remediating the external parade ground. Works included structural, electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic upgrades, along with temporary facilities to maintain cadet operations.
Delivered within an active Defence environment, the project required close coordination with base personnel and an existing contractor to minimise disruption. Temporary offices were provided, and access to the building was maintained throughout.
Hazmat investigations revealed additional lead contamination, which was safely managed with PPE and administrative controls. Sustainability initiatives included recycled plastic aggregate in concrete and the use of HaTelit Asphalt Reinforcement Geogrid—its first application in a general hardstand.
