The FKG Group was engaged by the Queensland Government, through the Department of Housing and Public Works, to perform refurbishment works to the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries (DAF) Facilities in Toowoomba.

The scope of works extended across 13 buildings and included the installation of new linings, reconfiguration of existing building layouts, general refurbishments, and upgrades to the mechanical, electrical, and communication systems.

With internal and external upgrades required across a range of buildings, the project team planned staged works to minimise disruptions to the operational environment and decrease the possibility of impacts to the laboratory testings and equipment.

Furthermore, valuable DAF assets remained in a number of the buildings throughout the project, which required the team to take proactive measures to protect and cover.

During the project, additional works relating to B Block were added to the programme after latent conditions were discovered. Despite the additional works, the project was completed on time in line with the adjusted programme.

Although faced with a number of challenges, often seen with refurbishing an older building, the project team successfully completed the works while maintaining continuous open communication with all stakeholders.
