Toowoomba Hospital Essential Power Upgrade

FKG, in partnership with NRG, was engaged to deliver the Essential Power Upgrade at Toowoomba Hospital. The project included installation of new generators, switchboards, and a 10,000L in-ground fuel tank, enabling 100% backup power in line with modern hospital design standards.

Works were staged to minimise disruption, with temporary relocations and flexible access maintained throughout delivery. Safety was prioritised through hydro excavation and concrete scanning around undocumented services. Infection control measures were implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic, including site delineation, sanitation protocols, and solid hoarding. Weekly stakeholder updates and Notices of Impact Activity ensured clear communication with hospital staff.

Design adjustments and scope changes—such as UPS upgrades, fire-rated cabling, and bin store relocation—were coordinated collaboratively. The project achieved over 99% local spend and exceeded training targets, with practical completion delivered in alignment with revised program milestones.
