The FKG Group was engaged by the Department of Transport and Main Roads to complete road construction works including pavement rehabilitation, strengthening, asphalt resurfacing, and drainage for a 1.7km section of the Warrego Highway through the town of Miles.
The Miles Western Access Upgrade project included drainage works (including culvert removal and replacement); road excavation; earthworks; placement of lightly bound pavements; bituminous surfacing; asphalt resurfacing; vegetation works; and the installation of road furniture.
The urban component of the work for residents and travellers resulted in new dedicated turning lanes, widened intersections and pavement surface improvements following the road works through town. New convenient pedestrian ramps and pathways were also created with improved lighting infrastructure on busy traffic junctions.
Throughout the project, the FKG Group project team was responsible for a number of environmental factors on the site, including soil and water quality management measures, particularly in relation to fish habitats and areas of close proximity to the regional ecosystem running parallel with Dogwood Creek.
The FKG Group also successfully consulted with the community and local businesses throughout the road works to ensure minimal disruption.
This project was part of the $635 million Warrego Highway Upgrade Program funded by the federal and state governments on an 80:20 funding split.
