FKG was engaged to manage the design and construction of the Willows Sports Stadium demolition in Townsville. The scope included decommissioning the facility, staged demolition, salvaging sporting items, and levelling the site for subdivision into three blocks, with civil works concluding in hydromulch.
A key challenge was meeting government expectations for sustainability. FKG achieved a 97% recycling rate, repurposing 20,000T of concrete and 1,700T of steel. Crushed concrete and earth supported local housing developments, while steel was sent for reuse. Stadium items were donated to regional organisations.
Strategic programming enabled early civil works ahead of the wet season, supported by swift demolition progress. FKG maintained open communication with the neighbouring Brothers League Club to ensure uninterrupted access, and engaged local residents and businesses to foster community support. The project was delivered on time and within budget, aligning with stakeholder priorities and supporting future development of the site.
