FKG Group’s commitment to excellence has received state-wide recognition, with the Cairns Aquarium and Reef Research Centre winning the 2018 Master Builders Queensland award for Project of the Year, in addition to the award for Tourism and Leisure Facilities over $10 million.
Completed in August 2017, the $41.6 million design and construct project was delivered on time and within budget, giving Cairns a world-class tourism facility expected to attract more than 500,000 visitors per year.
Highlighting FKG Group’s design and construct capabilities, the project’s program was developed after lengthy discussions with design consultants, and specialist industry contractors on key lead items. Progressive reviews of the cost plan during the design and development period were carried out whilst working with the client to ensure that project deliverables of scope, quality and functionality were maintained.
As a complex and challenging build, the unique three level project required FKG Group to meticulously plan and deliver innovative solutions. From working with international suppliers in Europe, North America, and Asia to source high quality materials, through to the development of purpose-made trolley skates to ensure tanks weighing up to seven tonne were installed carefully without creating hazards.
With the project now nominated for the National Master Builders Awards, the team have booked their tickets to go to Adelaide in late November.
