FKG was engaged by the Department of Education for the design and construction of a new state school in North Maclean, Greenbank. The scope included an administration block, resource centre, multi-purpose hall, Prep and junior learning areas, student and staff amenities, canteen, covered links, grounds care, and all supporting infrastructure.
Designed to accommodate approximately 564 students from Prep to Year 6, the school was delivered on a greenfield site. Significant quantities of hard rock were encountered during excavation, prompting a redesign of ground levels and the adoption of controlled blasting as the most cost and time-effective method to maintain program and budget. Blasting was carried out under strict safety protocols, including site clearance, traffic control, and monitored detonation procedures.
Drawing on experience from previous school projects, FKG proposed design improvements that enhanced circulation, surveillance, thermal comfort, and wayfinding across the campus. Roofing trades were split across multiple subcontractors to meet milestones, enabling concurrent work fronts and supporting smaller businesses.
