FKG was engaged for the design and construction of 13 new permanent learning spaces, refurbishment of eight existing buildings, and demolition of one building at Muswellbrook South Public School.
Delivered within an operational school environment, the project was staged across four milestones to minimise disruption. Temporary fencing and hoarding movements were coordinated outside school hours, with walkthroughs conducted alongside school staff to ensure secure separation from active areas. Dedicated access routes and holiday-period works further reduced impact. FKG supported the school through each decant and occupation phase. Design efficiencies included lightweight trusses, reduced column numbers, and improved ramp layouts to enhance student movement.
Sustainability features such as solar panels, water-efficient fixtures, and responsible material sourcing contributed to the school’s 4 Star Green Star equivalent rating. Despite challenges including undocumented services and asbestos finds, the project was completed ahead of the adjusted program, achieving over 16% Indigenous spend and strong stakeholder engagement throughout delivery.
