Oakey Commercial Centre

FKG was engaged by the Commonwealth Government of Australia for the construction of a new AAFCANS commercial centre at the Australian Army Aviation Training Centre. The scope included demolition of the existing AAFCANS structure, temporary relocation of Defence Bank, and construction of new AAFCANS and DEFBANK facilities, along with additional carparking.

Delivered within an operational defence environment, FKG maintained strong collaboration with base stakeholders and prioritised local industry participation. Challenges included undocumented asbestos and in-ground structures, which were resolved through licensed removal and redesign of the suspended slab to bridge existing bored piers. Sewer diversions and design coordination issues were addressed promptly, minimising program impact. FKG re-sequenced works to complete the carpark early, mitigating weather risks and improving site access.

The project was delivered on time and to budget, with proactive communication and minimal disruption to base operations contributing to a successful outcome.
