APN newspapers engaged the FKG Group to design and construct a modern new office facility for their Toowoomba based newspaper, the Chronicle.
After spending over 30 years in their existing premises, the Chronicle approached the FKG Group to manage both the development, construction, leasing and sales process of a new headquarters.
The scope of works included the removal of unsuitable materials, construction of 1400m2 of open plan office spaces, and 800m2 of underground car park spaces – which was created by utilising the existing slope of the land, instead of cutting and filling the block.
With a tight Christmas deadline, the team looked to implement time saving solutions while continuing to use quality materials. The building was constructed using tilt panels to save time and efficiently place walls, while ExoTec compressed fibre cement sheeting was selected for its high impact resistance, durability, and express jointing system.
With a focus on creating a ‘green’ yet light filled building, the project team suggested the implementation of energy efficient lights with sensors, thermo reflective glazing on the windows, and energy saving air-conditioning systems.
The building is sure to provide Toowoomba’s main newspaper with a modern and energy efficient space to ensure the news team stay ahead of the day’s events.
