US-based Halliburton is one of the world’s largest providers of products and services to the energy industry. With a presence in approximately 80 countries, the company serves the upstream oil and gas industry throughout the reserve lifecycle.

The FKG Group was engaged by Halliburton Australia Pty Ltd to construct an extensive maintenance facility and operations base in Roma, as part of Halliburton’s expanding operations in the Surat Basin. Located on an undeveloped greenfield site of approximately 11ha, the facility was delivered in phases from north to south, to ensure adequate functionality was achieved during the expansion of the project.

Construction comprised of concrete and structural steel sheds containing a two-level office, automated and manual truck wash, a hazardous substances and dangerous goods area, cement bulk plant and laboratory, and bulk storage.

The scope of work also included the installation of fencing, boom gated vehicle access, asphalt surfaced staff and visitor car parks for 28 vehicles, and internal heavy-duty concrete pavement roadways.

“My previous work was with the safety component of major infrastructure projects in Switzerland, New Zealand and Western Australia. With this background,  I was able to identify that [FKG’s] project site was one of the cleanest, well-organised and well-equipped of any I have seen. The positive safety attitude of employees was plain to see in the measured way that they approached their task, compliance with PPE, signage, traffic management, and a steady and calm pace overall. Well done.”
