Malec Warehouse Facility – Port of Brisbane

FKG was engaged by the Port of Brisbane to deliver the design and construction of a 42,000m² industrial facility for Malec. The scope included heavy-duty hardstand areas, workshop, office, gatehouse, car parking, and wash-down and refuelling facilities, with full site security to meet AQIS requirements.

Design innovations included solar-powered lighting, recycled water systems, and bird-proofing features. Office fitout enhancements were added mid-project. Early demolition and earthworks prepared the brownfield site, while post-tension slab pours progressed efficiently. Reuse of trusted subcontractors from previous Port of Brisbane projects helped streamline delivery.

Key challenges included limited power supply and Energex delays, which were mitigated through early engagement and staged commissioning.

Strong client relationships and clear communication supported smooth delivery. The project was completed on time in June 2023, meeting operational needs and achieving high-quality outcomes through collaborative planning and lessons learned from prior works.
