The Wandoan South Solar Project is located near Wandoan, 400km north-west of Brisbane in south-west Queensland. The project has a proposed generation capacity of 100 megawatts (MWh) and will generate electricity equivalent to the annual needs of up to 57,000 homes. It represents the first milestone of the Wandoan South Project to be developed across several stages.
This project is the largest utility-scale battery project and the first of its kind passing the full grid impact assessment in Queensland. The battery system is connected to Powerlink’s Wandoan South Substation, located to the south of the project site.
The battery system will provide ancillary services and help maintain grid stability as a growing number of variable renewable energies join the local grid.
